Our Operations

We support children and youth to reach their full potential!

We run shelter homes, schools and a reasonable mess that helps such needy young people. We also have our helpline offices that can be approached at any time.

Committees

Each chapter has a variety of committees. Each committee focuses on a set of issues.
As a member, you could work in a committee that interests you, or multiple.
Some popular committees are listed below, but you could create your own as well!

Reproductive Health

Our reproductive health committee is focused on tackling issues such as access to reproductive products such as tampons, as well as access to services such as gynecologists and urologists. We also strive to protect the rights of women to have access to services such as abortion clinics and compassionate prenatal care.

Health Disparities

Healthcare is the US is expensive, and low income populations are especially vulnerable. The high price of medicine discourages people from seeking care, forcing them to live with potentially debilitating health conditions. Additionally, people living in rural areas have less access to care. We seek to bridge this gap, making medicine more affordable and available to all people.

Health Insurance, Coverage, and Access

Many people in disadvantaged populations unfortunately do not have health insurance or have poor insurance. This increases the cost of care for these patients. We aim to change legislation to make insurance more affordable and to increase the services that they cover.

Substance Misuse and Addiction

In 2022, 46.8 million Americans (16.7%) have battled substance abuse. This problem plagues our society and has hurt the quality of life for so many Americans. We seek to implement stricter substance regulations, increasing restrictions for the consumption of drugs like tobacco. Additionally, many patients who are given painkillers by physicians unfortunately end up misusing them, falling into addiction. This committee focuses on alleviating these issues.

Mental Health

Mental health is an aspect of healthcare that is often overlooked, yet it is just as important to be mentally healthy as it is to be physically healthy. This committee aims at increasing access to mental health resources such as therapists and psychiatrists in areas where they are rare, as well as breaking the stigma of seeking mental health services. We seek to help people understand that issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and many others are just as serious as physical ailments, and to get help if needed.

EMS Policy

There are many issues in our nation’s EMS system, including a shortage in workers, inadaquate training, and working long shifts with little breaks. We seek to reform the EMS system to make EMTs more qualified and confident in their skills, as well as shortening skills to provide a better work life balance and reduce the risk of driving while tired.

Steps to Creating and Implementing a Plan!

These are the steps for a committee to put a plan into action!

1. The committee conducts research about their topic and identifies potential policies or gaps in public awareness to focus on.
2. The committee drafts a Committee Action Plan, which details their issue of choice and the specific actions they want to take to address the issue
3. The plan is reviewed by the Law and Policy Chair or the Awareness and Activism Chair, who either approve the plan or request edits.
4. When the plan is approved, committee members begin implementing it!
